The Joinery ITO administers apprenticeships in the glass and glazing industry. The National Certificate in Glazing Level 4, is a specialist qualification which recognises the skills and knowledge required to install glass in the glass and glazing industry. Holders of the Certificate are able to meet the requirements of employers who install glass, both residentially and commercially. New apprentices start with a distance learning programme, to gain the National Certificate in Glass and Glazing Introduction. Apprentices also attend block courses at the Glass & Glazing Institute of NZ to gain unit standards in the National Certificate in Glazing. THE TRAINING AGREEMENT JITO draws up a training agreement between the employer and apprentice, setting out the terms and conditions of the apprenticeship. Both parties retain a copy of the agreement, and one is filed at JITO. We will ask for a copy of the Employment Contract for our records. If the apprentice already has some industry experience, you may wish to apply for a credit of time; please do this at the time of the application. HOW TRAINING HAPPENS Distance Learning The apprentice will begin working on the National Certificate in Glass and Glazing – Introduction immediately. This is a distance learning qualification, completed with the assistance of a workplace mentor. It is suggested that the Mentor is either the Manager or someone in the business who is industry experienced and is able to offer guidance, industry and business knowledge and motivation to work regularly on their workbooks. JITO arranges an introductory training session to explain the system to the workplace mentor and the apprentice. It is expected that the apprentice will complete the National Certificate in Glass and Glazing Introduction through distance learning within 12 to 18 months. |
