RECOGNITION OF CURRENT COMPETENCIES (RCC)
For The National Certificates in Joinery
Purpose
The purpose of this service is to enable people in the industry who have learned and practiced their craft informally over many years to gain a joinery qualification.
The candidate is asked to provide evidence (references, photographs, etc) of his or her joinery skills. A registered Joinery ITO Assessor assesses such evidence, and conducts a professional interview and a skills audit with the candidate in his or her workplace.
The successful outcome of this process is the award of a National Certificate in Joinery to the candidate.

Requirements
The candidate must have at least seven continuous years industry experience, be currently employed as an joiner and be over 25 years of age.

Costs
RCC costs between $1,200 and $2,000 depending on the qualification. These costs cover the following:
- Application Fee*
- Credit Fees
- Assessor Fees
- NQF National Student Number
- National Certificate
- Qualified Joiners Card

*Application Fee $400 to be forwarded with the application form
Procedure
The candidate:
  • Registers with the Joinery ITO as a RCC Candidate.
  • Provides references from past employers and/or the present employer attesting the candidate’s work skills.
  • provides a comprehensive portfolio of evidence of completed items of joinery, i.e. photographs, letters from clients, employers, etc.
The JITO Registered Assessor:
  • Evaluates the evidence and references provided by the candidate.
  • Conducts a skills audit and professional interview with the candidate about his or her trade.
The Joinery ITO:
  • Notifies the New Zealand Qualifications Authority that the candidate has met the requirements of the relevant National Certificate in Joinery when the assessor is satisfied that the candidate has the skills expected of a joinery craftsperson in the relevant joinery discipline.
  • Applies for the National Certificate and awards it to the Candidate.
