Architectural Aluminium Joinery Qualifications


National Certificate in Architectural Aluminium Joinery (Assembly and Glazing) with an optional strand in Cutting and Machining (Level 3)

This certificate is intended for people with some work experience in this or other manufacturing industries. The skills recognised by this certificate are the more complex skills needed for the manufacture of aluminium joinery products as well as supervisory, teamwork, communication, computing, and customer service skills and glass knowledge and cutting.

The compulsory section, an elective section and an optional strand give the certificate a number of exit points to allow for different skill combinations and greater flexibility for candidates.

The core skills for aluminium joinery are the assembly and glazing of aluminium joinery products. Standards relating to these activities are in the compulsory section, along with safety, measurement, industry and product knowledge.

The elective section lets candidates choose the training options most appropriate to their skill needs and the way their company works.

National Certificate in Architectural Aluminium Joinery (with strands in Quotations and Special Aluminium Joinery) Level 4

This qualification is for people in the architectural aluminium joinery industry who either specialise in preparing quotations for aluminium window contracts or manufacturing aluminium joinery to non-standard (special) specifications.

The compulsory section of the qualification covers the knowledge and skills related to applying hazard identification and risk assessment procedures, applying problem-solving techniques, collaborating within a group/team that has an objective, glass types and their application, implications of legislation and standards for the glass and aluminium joinery industries, working drawings and specifications for building work, and applying product or service knowledge.

The Quotation strand covers the knowledge and skills related to producing quotations, principles and procedures for aluminium window installation, preparing window schedules and specifications, employing customer service techniques, answering customer enquiries on the telephone, and responding to customer enquiries by writing.

The Special Aluminium Joinery strand covers the knowledge and skills related to assembling non-standard (special) aluminium joinery products, cutting aluminium extrusions, machining and preparing aluminium extrusions, preparing and fitting reveals, and glazing non-standard (special) aluminium joinery products.

National Certificate in Architectural Aluminium Joinery (Installation)Level 4

This qualification is for people working in the architectural aluminium joinery and/or
construction trades industries who install aluminium joinery products (windows and doors)for residential and light commercial buildings.

The qualification covers the knowledge and skills related to glazing aluminium joinery
products, principles and procedures for aluminium window installation, installing residential and light commercial joinery products, using adhesives and sealants, principles and methods used in weatherproofing buildings, giving building site related oral instructions, writing build site related communications, using hand tools, using portable power tools, employing customer service techniques, using safe work practices with glass, and on construction sites, applying time management techniques, collaborating within a group/team which has an objective, leading a group/team to achieve an objective, and implementing work team plans.

NOTE: This qualification requires attendance at a one day practical workshop.
